On this 5 day journey, I hoped to raise as much awareness as possible for the British Stammering Association - a truly amazing organisation to which I owe so very much.

4 relaxing nights were spent in the incredible Premier Inns.

The Premier Inns I stayed at were those at:

Derby West,
Walsall,
Ross-On-Wye
and Newport

The staff were incredibly kind both in the hotels and the restaurants next door.
The Premier Inns' wonderful Louise Shuel and my lovely wife, Sheila, had between them sorted out my accomodation for me and I am so grateful to them both.

I really have to praise my wife Sheila for her support and help re: this ride.
I know how worried she was and that, for her, it was not a stress-free five days.
I think she was only relaxed when I got to Porthcawl and it was all over !!!

The B.S.A is the only organisation for those who stammer, and it is run by people who stammer. These people do an incredible job. They have helped so many people improve the quality of their lives.
I am just one of the 700, 000 or more people in this country of ours who stammer.
By going on their website, you can donate monies which will enable the BSA to carry on the fantastic work that they do.

Please donate as much as you can to the BSA by:

SENDING A CHEQUE :

TELEPHONING:

and leave your credit card details

For every £1 donated, the BSA is able to help somebody who stammers.
I must thank West Yorkshire Police and UNISON for donating so much money to the BSA; I am so touched by the generosity and kindness of people. Amazing.

A special THANK YOU goes to my speech therapist, Dr. Trudy Stewart. She has been amazing. I am so grateful to her - and always will be.

My bike is one bought from DAVE RAYNER CYCLESPORT shop in Garforth, West Yorkshire. I had my very first Yorkshire bicycle there back in 1998. They have always been so kind and pleasant to me, and are always most reasonable. They have also supplied me with some great advice. I have also purchased all that my bike needs from their wonderful store.
Graham has been so kind. Such a wonderful, truly nice guy.
Pop in one day; they really are the best:

Tell them I sent you !

My bike never once had a puncture and apart from the chain and a few creaks was fantastic for the entire journey.

2 very special books inspired me to do the journey.
The first is by my cycling hero. The legend that is Lance Armstrong. The book is called 'IT'S NOT ABOUT THE BIKE'. It truly is an incredible story of how he came back after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, to go and win the Tour de France. It is such an inspiring book of one man's determination to win.
Go out and buy it.
Yellow Jersey Press

The other is a book I picked up in the charity shop in Kippax.

The amazing story of a woman of 54, overweight and definitely someone who was no expert when it came to bicycles. But she cycled 12000 miles around the world all on her own !!
It is an incredible tale told with humour and warmth.
My only moan is there are no photos of this incredible lady in the book.
Her name is Anne Mustoe and the book is called 'A BIKE RIDE'

I was nervous about this ride and it was difficult at times. I do now ache and wish I had another week to recover. It may have been a 'mid-life crisis', but it raised £321 for the BSA and I'm proud of that fact.
It may even have raised more as a lot of people have rung in donations.

At 47 years of age, i was amazed that I did it.
Cycling into Porthcawl I must admit I felt smug !!

I must also say Thank You to West Yorkshire Police.
Their support, backing and getting me the publicity for this worthy cause has been amazing. I am so grateful to them.

Thanks also to Rachel Hunter, who I work with at WYP. She has been so incredibly supportive and has been great in thinking up ways of getting donations for the BSA.
Thanks, Rachel
And also thank you Shirley Wade for letting me have a lot of shower caps.
These are amazing for keeping my bike saddle dry in the rain.
Such a simple idea but so very handy.
Thank you Shirley

Thanks also to my Unison Rep, Rachel Hemingway for some wonderful cycling tips and a book on cycling down to Wales along the canal paths. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do any of them, but who knows......maybe next year !!!
